ELA – why a «clean» image still lights up ▪ It sounds logical: clean it up, resave, compress again – no traces left. ▪ Doesn’t work. ▪ ELA (Error Level Analysis) doesn’t look at “visual quality”. It analyzes how compression errors are distributed. – different areas compress differently – inserted parts produce different noise levels – compression structure gets broken ▪ Re-saving doesn’t fix it. It only degrades the whole image evenly, while anomalies stay visible. ▪ JPEG quantization leaves specific patterns.
